Missouri Tigers Thursday practice notes

COLUMBIA, Mo (KAIT) - The Mizzou Football team held its final of three pre-season scrimmages Thursday afternoon, but the threat of inclement weather forced the practice into the Dan Devine Indoor Pavilion, where the team worked for about an hour-and-a-half.

With the move indoors, the format of the scrimmage was altered significantly, which meant that no score was kept on the day.  Junior TB Derrick Washington had the lone touchdown of the day, when he scored on a 5-yard run early on.  Sophomore QB Blaine Gabbert was an efficient 11-of-14 passing for 84 yards, with senior WR Danario Alexander being his favorite target on the day (4 catches, 42 yards).

The number one defense was impressive in its limited appearances, as it didn't allow a sustained drive by the #2 offense.  Sophomore DE Jacquies Smith was a force early on, as he had two tackles for loss and a QB sack in a short sequence of plays, while senior SS Hardy Ricks grabbed an interception on a ball over the middle.

The team came out of its final scrimmage in good health overall, but there were a couple of injuries to report from Thursday.  Junior college safety Jarrell Harrison dislocated his right elbow making a tackle early in the scrimmage, and he's expected to be out for several weeks, while sophomore LB Will Ebner strained his neck.  Ebner isn't expected to miss any time.

The Tigers are off Friday and return to the practice field Saturday and Sunday as the 2009 season opener against Illinois looms barely a week away.  Stay tuned to mutigers.com for continuing coverage of the team!
