MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Memphis football coach Tommy West doesn't want a repeat of the past couple of seasons when his teams got off to slow starts.
The Tigers can't afford a sluggish start when the second half of the upcoming season includes games against Tennessee, Southern Miss, East Carolina, Houston and Tulsa.
So West says it's vital for the Tigers to have a strong start, the Commercial Appeal reports.
Memphis opens the season against rugged Mississippi next Sunday at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. After that, the Tigers have games against Middle Tennessee, UT-Martin, Marshall, Central Florida and UTEP.
