Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - Last year Jonesboro returned to its winning ways against its crosstown rival Nettleton.
In 2007 the Nettleton Raiders entered the Crosstown Showdown having never beaten Jonesboro, they left ASU Stadium with their first ever victory over Jonesboro. The next year the Hurricane under new head coach Randy Coleman dominated the overmatched Raiders.
Heading into Tuesday one team is coming into the came with its head held high while the other still seems to have a lot of questions.
Jonesboro enters the game having 70+ athletes padded out for fall practice. JHS played Greene County Tech in a pre-season scrimmage dominating the Golden Eagles by defeating them 38-8 at Cooksey-Johns Field. Jonesboro also enters the contest on Tuesday ranked number 6 in the 6A conference. In 2008 Jonesboro had a remarkable turnaround after going (2-8) in 2007 to finish (8-3) in 2009 with a home playoff game.
Nettleton who overwhelmed the Hurricane in 2007 fell to them in 2008 by the score of 49-18. Nettleton had an estimated 30-35 players out for fall practice and struggled in their pre-season game against Osceola falling 44-13. Nettleton never really got going last year finishing (2-8) on the year. Nettleton comes into the game unranked in the 5A conference
The game is scheduled for Tuesday September 1st at ASU Stadium. Jonesboro leads the all time series 4-1.
