LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- As an organization that favors Governor Huckabee's school district consolidation plan released supportive poll data Tuesday, two legislators prepared to offer alternative education reform bills.
Two representatives are drafting different bills in an effort to meet the requirements of a state Supreme Court ruling declaring Arkansas' method of school funding unconstitutional.
In November, the high court gave legislators until January 1 to overhaul the state's education system in way that will provide an adequate education for each of the state's 450,000 public school students.
The governor's plan isn't favored by many rural legislators representing small school districts opposed to consolidation.
