LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The trucking industry cleared a major legislative hurdle today with committee approval of a bill to grant tax amnesty to Arkansas truckers who bring home rigs that are registered outside the state.
Truckers say that without tax breaks and amnesty for back taxes the state says trucking firms would owe if they moved back to the state, many small companies would have to leave the state or quit the business.
The committee voted eleven-to-four to send the bill to the House, where the measure has 40 sponsors and needs 51 votes to pass.
