MO Supreme Court upholds state funding system

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) - A court ruling released Tuesday afternoon puts an end to a five year court battle over how money goes to schools throughout Missouri.

The state supreme court upheld the state's school funding formula.

The decision caps a long legal battle in which schools argued the state fails to provide enough money and does not distribute it fairly.

In Tuesday's decision the supreme court ruled the constitution contains no fundamental right to equal per-pupil spending.

The justices said the constitution also includes no requirement for the state to provide more than 25 percent of its revenues to schools.

Dozens of local school districts have been part of this lawsuit.
