LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- A bill that would prohibit open containers of beer and alcohol or their consumption in a motor vehicle failed to get approval from a Senate committee Wednesday.
The measure, proposed by Senator Tim Wooldridge of Paragould, never made it to a vote, after it was discussed by members of the Judiciary Committee.
Senator Sue Madison of Fayetteville called the measure an excessive intrusion into people's lives.
But Senator Kim Hendren of Gravette said that the intrusion and inconvenience to people would be worth it if the bill saved lives.
Wooldridge said he was disappointed with the committee response but will continue to push for a vote.
