Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - Labor Day weekend is upon us and many people plan to spend it outdoors. At Crowley's Ridge State Park they have several spots for campers, RV's and tents.
Park Interpreter Heather Runyan said most of those spots are full, but there have been a few cancellations.
Runyan said, "Labor Day is generally one of our busiest weekends out of the whole year. So I'm not sure we are seeing an increase in our camping and cabins because they are generally full anyway. It's hard to judge more if you're normally full. Overall this summer we have seen an increase in people coming out to camp though."
Runyan believes that the economy may be having an effect on people coming to the park.
Runyan said, "I have had some people tell me, yeah we normally go off to do something, but this year we're trying to stay a little closer to home and save some money where we can."
It's not just local people that are camping. Runyan said they are seeing people from out of town as well. Lonnie Cook is from Hayti, Missouri and is looking forward to his first time camping at Crowley's Ridge.
Cook said, "Well just like I said relaxation, maybe taking the kids swimming, fishing, doing pedal boats."
Other than spending time outdoors, Runyan said there are many things to do while visiting Crowley's Ridge.
Runyan said, "First of all it's just getting out with your family out into the outdoors, which a lot of people are not getting out as much as they need to these days. We also have a swimming area, we have boats, fishing boats, canoes and pedal boats, the hiking trails, a playground for the kids and of course we are going to be offering programs all weekend long."
