Suspected rapist could soon face more charges

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Bruce Tuck, the authorities in West Tennessee suspect of being the 'big bellied' rapist, could soon be charged in at least two more attacks.

Friday, Tuck remained jailed in Weakley County on sexual assault charges from an alleged attack in Martin.  But other sexual assault cases in Memphis and Shelby County remain officially open.

On August 23, a woman was raped inside a unit at the Woodchase Apartments.  Memphis Police say they have now linked Bruce Tuck to the case. Meanwhile, investigators are they're still working on a separate fondling case on Greenbrook, in which they have yet to connect Tuck.

Shelby County Sheriff's investigators say they believe Tuck raped another woman at another Cordova apartment in late June.

But neither the Memphis Police Department nor the Shelby County Sheriff's Department plan to file charges against Bruce Tuck.  Instead, they plan to take the case straight to a grand jury - state law allows it.

Jennifer Donnals, spokesperson for the District Attorney's office, said she couldn't comment on the specific of Tuck's case, bus said bypassing an arrest and pursuing an indictment is a common practice.

"It doesn't really make a lot of sense to arrest the person again and start the process again back down in General Sessions when we can just present it to a grand jury," Donnals said.
