Nordex officially breaks ground in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Ground has officially been broken in Jonesboro on a new 187-acre wind turbine facility set to open in 2010.

Friday afternoon, company officials, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin, and Governor Beebe were on hand to turn some dirt, and officially break ground on the new site. Region 8 News was the first to tell you that the company had already started construction back on July 20th.

Nordex is expected to bring over 700 jobs to the area, and will sit on a 187-acre site in the Craighead Technology Park.

The assembly plant, along with a planned second-phase rotor blade production facility is expected to cost around $100 million to build.

The United State is on track to be the world's single largest wind market in 2010, with 8,500 megawatts expected. That's nearly one quarter of the total new capacity worldwide. Nordex is expecting to generate 20% of the global revenue from the American Market.

Region 8's Lauren Payne was at the site this afternoon, and will have live coverage of the day's events on Region 8 News at 5, 6, and 10.
