ASU Men's Golf continues play in Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (9/14/09) - The Arkansas State men's golf team waited out an early-morning rain delay and then proceeded to post its best single-round score since the 2007-08 season, shooting a first-round 280 Monday at the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate that left it tied for second place among 15 teams.
The second round was suspended due to darkness, but will resume Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m. and will be followed by the tournament's third and final round.
ASU's opening-round 280 was its best since shooting a 278 at its own tournament in April of 2008.  Competing in their first tournament of the season, the Red Wolves are tied with Arkansas-Little Rock and just three strokes behind leader Memphis.
Junior Lloyd du Preez and sophomore Chris Pledger both shot a 68 and finished the first round tied for third place to lead ASU.  Joining du Preez and Pledger among the top 25 individual leaders was senior Kell Shenep, who posted a 71 to finish tied for 23rd place.
Warren Hood shot a 73 and Tyler Thompson a 75 to finish tied for 45th and 56th place, respectively.
