Rain making for soggy NEA District Fair set up

Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - Puddles of water could be found across the Northeast Arkansas Fairgrounds today.  But that's not stopping Mitch Johnson and many others from setting up for Monday's opening of the Northeast Arkansas District Fair.

Johnson said, "It hasn't affected us that much this week.  We're in pretty good shape. Kind of ahead of the game as usual. We're making a lot of efforts to keep everything dried up and we'll continue to do so."

With more rain in the forecast you may be concerned about the area where the rides will be set-up. Johnson said don't worry.

Johnson said, "It's actually on a chat midway. It's a real solid base and it's real firm and dries real quick.  So there shouldn't be a problem at all."

Fair General Manager Jerry Reece agrees. He said you should have no problem enjoying the rides. However the cars will be parked on grass fields that are wet. Reece tells me though, they don't expect the recent rains to be a problem.

Reece said, "If I was a patron I wouldn't let that situation hold me back from coming to the fair."

Nothing is holding back workers from getting the fair set up. They've set up the grandstand chairs and a few booths are already set up with many more to come. So far, only a few rides are up and running. But Johnson said more are on the way.

He said, "The rides will be coming in sometime Sunday. Some of the more complicated ones it may take a little while into Monday. But we'll have everything up and ready and running by four o'clock."

Although more rain is in the forecast, Johnson said the fair will continue and they hope you will be there.

He said, "We encourage them to come on out and we'll make sure that we accommodate everybody and that we have everything to keep it up and going."
