WICHITA, Kan. (9/18/09) - The Arkansas State women's tennis team posted a doubles win in the first round of play at the Wichita State University Fall Classic Friday in Wichita, Kan.
The first day of competition began with a round of 16 doubles competition. ASU's Maria Alemán and Tina Ojdanic fell to Oklahoma State's Alisa Buslaieva and Iryna Khatsko 8-1 before Jenny Herring and Ronè van Wyk topped Arkansas' Lindsey Gray and Adriana Nieto 8-4 to move on to the quarterfinals in doubles play.
In the quarterfinals, Herring and van Wyk dropped an 8-3 decision to OSU's Sasha Belova and Natalyia Shatkovskaya.
In Flight A of singles action, Herring dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision to Khatsko, and van Wyk fell to Kansas State's Maryna Chumak 6-4, 6-4. Brittany Parks of Oklahoma shut out ASU's Andreea Georgescu 6-0, 6-0 in Flight B.
The Red Wolves will continue play at the WSU Fall Classic Saturday.
