PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say the death of an elderly woman whose son was arrested for previously assaulting her is being investigated as a homicide. Pine Bluff police responded to a call Friday from Daniel Olson, who said he found his 83-year-old mother, Martha, dead in a bathtub full of water.
Several days earlier, officers went to the Olson residence and found Martha Olson being treated for a gash to the back of her head. Police say Daniel Olson told them his mother has Alzheimer's, and that they had argued about house cleaning.
Police say Daniel Olson told them his mother hit him with her cane, and as he reached back, she stumbled and fell to the floor. Daniel Olson was arrested then for second-degree battery.
