LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas Lottery official is concerned that all the rain the state has received could delay plans to begin selling scratch-off tickets by next week.
The goal is to have 1,500 retailers ready to sell scratch-off tickets by the Sept. 28 start date, but Lottery Director Ernie Passailaigue says wet weather is slowing the process of installing outdoor satellite equipment at retail locations.
Retailers must be linked to lottery headquarters via satellite so winning tickets can be confirmed. Workers with lottery vendor Intralot had installed about 800 satellite terminals by Friday.
The National Weather Service forecast for Arkansas calls for a chance of rain through midweek.
