Juvenile arrested in shooting death of Weiner HS student

WEINER, AR (KAIT) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a 15-year-old Weiner High School student.

"There was a juvenile that was arrested today. it was based on an incident that happened on Labor Day in which a male juvenile was killed by a fatal gun shot wound," said Chief Deputy Prosecutor Marty Lilly.

According to Lilly, Arkansas State Police arrested a juvenile and charged him with manslaughter in the shooting death of Miles Greeno.

The juvenile is now into police custody.

"When we received the preliminary investigation results back, it lead us to investigate further information that was developed," said Lilly. "They went back and reinterviewed some witnesses. They followed up on those stories and then again, other interviews were taken until ultimately, interviews were done and statements taken in which, indicated and gave rise to us there were elements consistent with the charging of manslaughter."

On Labor Day, police responded to a shooting on West Kingshighway in Weiner. Police say that's where they found the 15-year-old Greeno in a truck with a gunshot wound to the head. A shotgun was also found in the truck.

Police originally ruled the shooting was accidental, but upon further interviews filed charges.

"There were 4 juveniles in the vehicle including the deceased," said Lilly.

According to Arkansas State Police, the shooting is still under investigation.

Weiner Police, and Poinsett County Sheriff's Department assisted with the investigation.
