ASU Volleyball Stumbles at New Orleans in First Sun Belt Conference Match

NEW ORLEANS, La. (9/24/09) - The Arkansas State volleyball team (10-5, 0-1) dropped its first Sun Belt Conference match of the year to New Orleans 3-1 on the road Thursday night.

Sophomore Cayla Fielder and freshman Taylor Coughlin led the team, each posting 11 kills on the night.  Senior libero Heather Bowman led the Red Wolves' defensive effort with 18 digs, while Coughlin led the team with four blocks.

The Lady Privateers (8-5, 1-0) took the first set 25-20, but the Red Wolves rallied with a 29-27 win in set two.  With the set tied at 27-27, a ball handling error and a kill from freshman Brittany Hoag landed the victory in ASU's favor.

In set three, UNO jumped out to an early 11-6 lead, and Arkansas State never caught up, losing the set 25-16.  The Lady Privateers broke away from a 12-12 tie in the fourth set and went on to win 25-20.

The Red Wolves will hit the hardwood again Saturday afternoon in a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Louisiana-Lafayette.
