Region 8 man found guilty in child's death; jury recommends 40 yrs

Kennett, MO (KFVS) - A Dunklin County jury has recommended a total of 40 years in prison for a Kennett man accused of killing his five-month-old son, according to prosecuting attorney Stephen Sokoloff.

The jury recommended 20 years for a second-degree murder charge against Eric Hopper, 31, and another 20 years on a charge of child abuse.  The jury found Hopper guilty on Thursday, according to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen P. Sokoloff.

A judge set a sentencing date of November 12.

Hopper was arrested in December, 2006, and charged with beating his son to death during a visit, Solkoff said.
