ASU Golf atop standings at Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate

FRANKLIN, Tenn.  - The Arkansas State men's golf team posted its best single-round score ever under fourth-year head coach Steve Johnson on Friday at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate, turning in a 272 that placed the Red Wolves atop the 17-team standings after the three-day tournament's opening round at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The Red Wolves had four golfers shoot under par, including Lloyd du Preez with a team-best 67 that leaves him tied for second place entering tomorrow's second round.  Warren Hood, Tyler Thompson and Kell Shenep all joined du Preez in the top-15 individual standings.

Hood and Thompson both shot a 68 to finish the day tied for ninth place, and Kell Shenep carded a 69 to end the round tied for 15th place.

ASU's 12-under 272 puts them two strokes ahead of second-place South Carolina and three strokes in front of third-place Georgia Tech with two rounds remaining.
