H1N1 blamed for death of Poplar Bluff patient

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The H1N1 virus has claimed the life of a patient at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, according to Director of Marketing Tiffany Jenkins.

Jenkins could not disclose the patient's identity due to privacy issues; however, she did say the patient died at the hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 22.  In a written statement, Jenkins also said the hospital is working closely with the local health department as the investigation into this incident continues.

Jenkins said the hospital will continue to follow "the strict guidelines and recommendations" implemented by the health department and CDC when treating suspected or confirmed cases of H1N1 Influenza A.  This includes proper hand washing, extensive sanitation measures and daily health checks, Jenkins said.
