Columbia, Mo. - University of Missouri Director of Athletics Mike Alden has been named President of the Division 1A Athletic Directors' Association, as announced yesterday by the association's Executive Director, Dutch Baughman.
At the conclusion of the 2009 1A Athletic Directors' Association Annual Meeting on Tuesday, September 29th, President Eric Hyman, Director of Athletics at the University of South Carolina, completed his term as Association President. At that time, Missouri's Mike Alden assumed the position as Association President, a one-year appointment lasting through September of 2010.
The Division 1A Athletic Directors' Association Officers also include 1st Vice President, Dan Guerrero, Director of Athletics, UCLA, and 2nd Vice President, Brad Bates, Director of Athletics, Miami University. The Executive Director is Dutch Baughman.
"On behalf of the Division 1A Athletic Directors' Association, it is our pleasure to announce the selection of Mike Alden, Director of Athletics at the University of Missouri, as the new Association President," Baughman said. "Mike has established himself as an outstanding Athletics Director, and is highly respected among his peers. In addition to his duties at the University of Missouri, Mike has also been a member of the Division 1A Athletic Directors' Association Institute Faculty for 8 years. Mike Alden has displayed excellent leadership ability throughout his career , and the Association will benefit from his influence and guidance," Baughman said.
"This is a great honor, and something I feel is a positive reflection of the University of Missouri as a whole, and all of the great work and achievements that are taking place here across the board," said Alden.
Alden is in his 12th year of leading the charge for Tiger Athletics, and has overseen a transformation of the department into one of the top comprehensive programs in the nation. Athletically, Mizzou recorded its most successful season ever in 2008-09, with a record-high finish in the Learfield Sports Director's Cup Standings, as well as seeing its football, men's basketball, soccer and softball teams all win Big 12 Conference titles during the year. Academically, Mizzou has routinely led the Big 12 in graduation and Academic Progress Rates, in addition to providing a strong presence in the Columbia community with countless outreach initiatives involving student-athletes, coaches and staff members.
