MARKED TREE, Ark. -- The Arkansas Army National Guard received a mobilization order Monday directing approximately 160 soldiers from the 1123rd Transportation Company based in marked Tree.
The company will be placed on federal active duty for a period of up to one year.
"The unit members are deploying to the U.S. Central Command area of operations to support the global war on terrorism and to prepare for future contingencies as may be directed," said Maj. Gen. Don C. Morrow, the adjutant general.
"This deployment is a prudent step to increase military capabilities and enhance flexibility."
The 1123rd Transportation Company and Detachment 1 of the 1123rd are based out of Marked Tree and Blytheville, Arkansas respectively. The units have transportation equipment such as tractor-trailers and five-ton trucks that can be used to haul anything from food and water to weapons and ammunition.
The soldiers, who were alerted over the weekend, are expected to move to their mobilization station this week and will be in place at their deployed location before month's end.
