Police: 19-year-old shot, suspect in custody

NEWARK, AR (KAIT) - The suspect in Thursday morning's shooting of a 19-year-old in Newark, is now in police custody.

According to the Independence County Sheriff's Department, Brian Fallis turned himself into deputies at the Arkansas State Police post in Newport.

Police had been searching for Fallis after responding to a shooting at the Macedonia Cemetery on Macedonia Road just north of Newark.

According to Lt. Brenda Bittle with the Independence County Sheriff's Department, the victim in the shooting has been identified as 19-year-old Spencer Gates of Sulfur Rock. Lt. Bittle says according to the family, Gates is in surgery in Little Rock and remains in critical condition.
