LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Legislators proposed a flurry of constitutional changes today, a day before the deadline for offering amendments.
Among them are measures dealing with public school financing, legislative sessions and governor's appointments.
One proposes amending the Constitution to provide that the state assume all public school debt and to authorize the state to levy a statewide property tax to support public schools.
Another amendment would require the Senate to confirm all appointments by a governor to head a state agency. And another recommends requiring the governor to get advice from the Senate on some pardon decisions.
