Cardinals minor leaguer suspended for amphetamine

NEW YORK (AP) - St. Louis Cardinals minor leaguer Alan Ahmady has been suspended for 50 games after testing positive for an amphetamine.

The 21-year-old Ahmady played this season in Class A Batavia. He spent time in the infield, outfield and catching, and hit .292 with three home runs with 32 RBIs.

Ahmady was penalized Tuesday under the minor league drug program. His suspension will begin at the start of next season.
