Police: Domestic standoff led school to being locked down

BAY, AR (KAIT) - The Bay School spent the morning in lockdown, after a standoff occurred at a location that was close to the school's grounds.

The incident happened around 8 Thursday morning after police say a female said she had been held against her will. The female managed to get away and call police.

When police arrived on scene, Matthew Treadaway barricaded himself in a home at 116 Fielder Street in Bay. Backup officers were called in and contact was made by phone to the suspect. After talking to him he refused to come out and hung up the phone.  Officers made several more attempts to get him back on the phone but he would not answer.

Police say the backyard of the home backed up to school property, and the school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Police were finally able to make contact with Treadaway, who surrendered peacefully to police. Treadaway was arrested for False Imprisonment and Domestic Abuse in the 3rd degree.

The female victim was taken and treated at a local hospital.
