Weiner Rice Festival celebrates the industry in the area

WEINER, AR (KAIT) - Saturday, the town of Weiner celebrated its 33rd annual Arkansas Rice Festival.  Folks lined up for the Weiner parade, carnival games and rides, as well as a rock climbing wall.

Thy were also able to participate in a karaoke contest, art contests, and rice cook-offs, among other entertainment.  Pesident of the festival, Kathy Hood, explains while some cancelations occurred due to weather, people still took part in this historic celebration.

"Some of the people around town just got together and decided we needed to do something for the rice industry cause that is our biggest industry in the state and so we have the Arkansas Rice Festival here in our little town of Weiner," said hood.

Money raised from the festival go towards next year's festival as well as scholarhsips.  This year, Hood made the announcement that a new scholarship will be given in honor of Miles Greeno, the high school student who died last month after being shot.
