JONESBORO, Ark. -- A Thursday afternoon traffic stop in Jonesboro resulted in the arrest of two individuals on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

A 26-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were taken into custody at the intersection of Stadium Boulevard and Phillips Drive in Jonesboro. Members of the Jonesboro Police Department, Arkansas State Police, Craighead County Sheriff's Department, and the 2nd Judicial District Drug Task Force seized 27 pounds of marijuana and $6,500 in cash.

According to a police spokesman, authorities were advised on February 10 to look for a silver-colored Jeep Cherokee in the Jonesboro area after information was developed that its owners were in possession of a significant amount of marijuana.

The names of the individuals in custody are being witheld, pending formal charges being filed.
