JONESBORO, Ark. (10/13/09) - Due to heavy rain in the Jonesboro area, the second day of the Lady Red Wolf Classic has been canceled Tuesday.
Since the final round was not completed on the second day the scores from the first two rounds will determine the tournament championship, meaning Arkansas State has taken first-place honors.
Murray State finished second with South Alabama coming in third. ASU took both first and second place with Cassie Huffer finishing at seven-over and Jennifer Welch finished in second-place at eight-over
"It's a particularly special win for us with three seniors and the individual honor for Cassie-her award being named after her grandfather," said ASU head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm. "It's an important piece of the puzzle for this year, we always want to win at home and we have some lofty goals that we were able to accomplish this week."
ASU had five players finish in the top-20 Monday at the Lady Red Wolf Classic hosted by the Jonesboro Country Club. The course is a 5,983-yard par 71. Arkansas State turned in single-round totals of 304 and 308 during day one.
The Red Wolves women's golfers return to action Nov. 1-2 at the UAB Fall Beach Blast in Golf Shores, Ala.
