PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a Jefferson County sheriff's deputy who was heading out on patrol near Pine Bluff.
An Arkansas State Police report says 22-year-old Ricco Jones was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident just before 4 a.m. Friday on U.S. 79. Sheriff's Maj. Greg Bowlin says the deputy, whose name wasn't released, was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
Bowlin says the deputy told troopers that as he drove into the left lane of the highway, Jones, a Pine Bluff resident, walked out in front of his car. The report says Jones was wearing dark clothing. --- Information from: Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, http://www.arkansasonline.com
