Region 8 youth group "Crushes Hunger"

Jonesboro, AR (KAIT)- Some region 8 residents are taking part in battling hunger and poverty throughout the world.

Saturday at the Bill's Fresh Market, located on Hilltop, the youth ministries at the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church held a fundraiser promoting "crush hunger" by letting participants swing with a sledge hammer at a displayed vehicle.

The vehicle was donated by youth minister, David Owens who says "what we are doing is just one of our big events this weekend.  We are actually participating in something called 30 hour famine, we are fasting for 30 hours and one of our events is crushing hunger and this car is representing hunger."

The group also participates in collecting food and supporting the salvation army.
