LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Little Rock airport commissioners want to be able to charge more to operators of parking lots off the airport's property.
The Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission wants a city ordinance amended that would allow it to raise the overnight parking rate from 35 cents per occupied space to 54 cents. Airport officials say the amount - when adjusted for inflation - is equal to the 35 cents when it was first charged in 1992.
Airport Executive Director Ron Mathieu says he plans to propose similar fees to hotels which advertise free parking in exchange for a night's stay at properties near the airport to catch early-morning flights.
The proposal would also allow the airport commission to increase the rate each year based on the consumer price index or 3 percent, whichever is greater.
