Jonesboro trying to stay ahead of the rain and possible flooding

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The City of Jonesboro is trying to stay above the flood waters they fear will fall with the prediction of heavy rain over the next few days.

Mayor Harold Perrin says road crews began hitting hot spots looking for debris or obstructions that might block the flow of water. Perrin says crews will be out all weekend.

According to a city press release, Jonesboro has around 300 miles of open ditches, and another 500 miles of enclosed ditches within the city limits. The city's street superintendent Floyd Lemm, hopes with the efforts they are putting forth, flooding won't be an issue.

Perrin said even though drainage is going to be an ongoing project for several years, it doesn't slow the city down in their efforts to handle the issue one rainfall at a time.
