If you've already read about the history of Mother's Day Around the World, you know that Americans were not the first to celebrate Mother's Day. Celebrating mother's dates back infinitely far.

Mother's Day is celebrated throughout the world.  Like in the United States, Mother's Day is observed on the second Sunday of every May in the following countries:

Australia
Belgium
Denmark
Finland
Hong Kong
India
Italy
Japan
Malaysia
Pakistan
Singapore
South Africa
Turkey

Similarily, Mother's Day is celebrated on May 10th in these countries:

El Salvador
Guatemela
Mexico

Mother's Day is observed on the first day of Spring (May 21st) in these countries:

Bahrain   
Oman
Lebanon
Qatar
Saudi Arabia
United Arab Emirates

Other countries have chosen to observe Mother's Day on another day altogether, but most of them still fall in May:

Argentina: third Sunday in October
Spain and Portugal: first Sunday in May
France: last Sunday in May (sometimes first Sunday in June)

Norway: second Sunday in February
Sweden: last Sunday in May
Ireland and the UK: first Sunday in Lent, March 2nd this year
