22 Injured At Auto Auction

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Twenty-two people are injured, and one child has been airlifted after a vehicle at a weekly automotive auction plowed into a set of bleachers Friday night.

The incident occurred at 8:15 p.m. at the Jonesboro Auto Auction on Highway 63 in southwest Jonesboro.

A female child was trapped underneath the black sedan. She was transported by to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. Due to weather conditions, the child was not airlifted.

Witnesses on the scene say that the dark green Kia Spectra ran into the crowd of people as it was being brought out for auctioning.

Of the 22 injured, three adults are in critical condition and were transported to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis.

According to police on the scene, it is believed that the accelerator of the vehicle may have stuck. No official word, however, exists as to the cause of the accident.
