Arkansas soldiers hold moment of silence for Fort Hood victims

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT) - A moment of silence is being observed Friday afternoon at 1:34 by the Arkansas National Guard in honor of Thursday's tragedy at Fort Hood.  A short service will also be held at the Post Chapel at Camp Joseph T. Robinson.

If you are unable to make it to the event at Camp Robinson the Arkansas National Guard asks that you observe the moment of silence where you are.

Thursday morning U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced the Department of Defense would be honoring the moment of silence throughout the world.

A statement released by the Arkansas National Guard said:

"The Arkansas National Guard is deeply saddened by the devastating tragedy that took place at Fort Hood, Texas, yesterday.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community of Fort Hood, but especially with the Families and individuals directly affected by this heartbreaking event."

Governor Mike Beebe has ordered that the national and state flags remain lowered across the state of Arkansas until sunset on Friday.
