Harding Men win ninth NCAA II South Region championship

TAMPA – The Harding men's cross country team won its ninth NCAA II South Region championship Saturday at Sydney Dover Trail and qualified for the NCAA II National Meet on Nov. 21 in Ashland, Ohio.

Harding, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA II South Region, won the race with 48 points, 41 points ahead of second-place Florida Southern. Both will advance to nationals, along with third-place Nova Southeastern.

Sophomore Daniel Kirwa won his second straight individual regional title. He completed the 10-kilometer race in 31 minutes, 10 seconds. His teammate, sophomore Philip Biwott, was second in 31:46. Junior Wojciech Kopec finished fourth in 32:34 and freshman Manase Busienei was 10th in 33:13. Each earned All-Region honors for finishing in the top 15.

Harding has won the NCAA Division South Region men's cross country championship every year since 2000 with the exception of 2007.
