JONESBORO, Ark. (11/9/09) – After the completion of the Sun Belt Conference tournament it was announced Arkansas State freshman defender Chelsea Fricke was named to SBC all-tournament team.
Fricke was just the second player in program history to earn a nod to the all-tournament team.
“We are very happy for Chelsea and her selection to the SBC All-tournament team,” said ASU head coach Derek Pittman. “She is a very deserving individual and has made a big impact on our team this season. Overall there were a number of quality performances that contributed to our success at the conference tournament last week and we are glad that at least one of them was recognized by our opponents.”
Fricke played in 20 games this season, drawing 19 starts at defender. She scored two goals and assisted on four more including scoring the game-winner against Grambling in the first-annual Red Wolves Cup.
The Red Wolves had a historic year, winning a school record eight matches including five in conference play, which was also a record. ASU also advanced to the Sun Belt Tournament for the first time since the 2004 season, beating No. 3 seed Western Kentucky and advancing to the semifinals for the first time in program history.
