Jonesboro, AR (KAIT) - This year police have reported 24 gun-related incidents in Jonesboro. Twenty-three of these crimes involved shots actually being fired and one resulted in the death of a mother of two.
On Wednesday the Jonesboro Police Administration released its 2009 Gun-Related Incidents and Shootings report. Many of the incidents happened in the northern side of town, specifically in police districts two, five and six in multi-family dwellings, such as apartment complexes.
According to the report, the main motives for the crimes included robbery, domestic disputes or retaliation. Furthermore, in twenty of the shootings, a person was the intended target. Other targets in the report were vehicles and a building.
Of the offenders 75% were African American and 92% were male. The average age of the perpetrator was just shy of 25 years old with ages ranging from 18 to 49 years old.
