Nettleton Football coach resigns, Murphree named as new coach

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) –Donnie Tennison has resigned as Nettleton High School's head football coach.

The move became official on Tuesday night when the Nettleton school board accepted Tennison's resignation.

Tennison was Nettleton's head football coach from 2004 until 2009. He guided the Raiders to a Class 5A state semifinal appearance in 2006.

Assistant coach Jay Murphree has been selected to become the Raiders' new head coach.

Coach Murphree has served as an assistant coach for the Raiders for the past three years.  "My goal for the Raider football program is to become competitive and put ourselves in a position for a district title year in year out" says Murphree.  Coach Murphree believes the Raiders are capable of this through hard work from both the players and coaches. We want a great effort in the classroom as well as on the football field, and to project a positive image in doing what it takes to be a successful program.

Coach Murphree's coaching career resume includes a record of 75/23, West TN Coach of the year in 2005, NE LA Coach of the year in 2000, Semi Finals in 2005, 1997 and 1996, Quarter Finals in 2006, 2003, 2002, 2001 and 2000.
