Red Wolves Bowling finishes sixth at UMES Hawks Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. (11/23/09) – The seventh-ranked Arkansas State women's bowling team went 7-6 last weekend, claiming a sixth-place finish at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks Classic Nov. 20-22 in Millsboro, Del.

"This tournament was somewhat of a step backward for us," said ASU head coach Justin Kostick. "It was a step in the wrong direction, but we're going to take this into practice and continue working on our fundamentals. We have to play better."

In the first day of completion, the Red Wolves went 2-3 with wins over Norfolk State (881-804) and Morgan State (956-854). ASU dropped its other three matches to Fairleigh Dickinson (1063-894), Kutztown (937-887) and Southern University (868-849).

Arkansas State bounced back Saturday, finishing 4-1 on the day. The Red Wolves topped New Jersey City 889-885 before falling to UMES 876-779. ASU earned a bye in the third match of the day, but went on to defeat Howard University 948-741, Sacred Heart 986-891 and St. Peter's 744-626.

A-State went 1-2 in Sunday's competition, falling first to Valparaiso 4-3. The Red Wolves topped Adelphi 4-2, but dropped a 4-2 decision to New Jersey City to close out the tournament.
