Black Friday called success by Region 8 shoppers and stores

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - If you wanted to find a parking spot in Jonesboro at 4 a.m. Friday morning, you may have had a hard time.

Black Friday was in full force across Region 8. At the Mall at Turtle Creek, lines wrapped around the store with customers camping out since Thanksgiving for great deals.

In Walmart, many did the same, picking up items before cashing out when the sale actually began. It was part of Walmart's safer approach to Black Friday, following last year's trampling death of a worker in New England.

Stores reported huge up ticks in sales too. "Today has been insane. Its broke all of our records, anything we ever expected. We had a line going all the way down to the jewelry store," said Trent Talley of Gearhead Outfitters in the mall.

Mall marketing director Sarah McGavran expected a big day. "It has met and exceeded our expectations, the place is packed and we love it," she exclaimed.

Shoppers also reported an increase in customer service. Some speculated that the downed economy nationwide (something of which retailers in Jonesboro are not widely reporting) had to do with that. The mutual relationship between Region 8 buyers and sellers was evident today, though, as thousands spent huge dollar amounts on the busiest shopping day of the year.

Many Black Friday sales continue throughout the weekend. Visit our Black Friday ad page to see if the store you want to shop at does.
