ASU entered their matchup with North Texas on a four game slide, while the Mean Green dropped their last three.
The Red Wolves scored 27 unanswered to begin the game. But North Texas went on a 26-3 run to cut the lead to 30-26 in the fourth quarter. The Mean Green's onside kick was recovered by ASU to hold on for a 30-26 win.
Saturday marked Senior Day at ASU Stadium. 19 players were honored before their final home game.
The Red Wolves got on the board in their first possession. Don Jones took the Ryan Aplin pitch for a 14 yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.
Kelcie McCray grabbed his fourth interception of the season to set ASU up with a 1st and Goal. Two plays later, Aplin kept it on a QB draw to give the Red Wolves a 14-nothing lead after one.
In the second, Aplin scored on another draw to give ASU a 21-0 advantage. Reggie Arnold tacked on a seven yard score to make it 27-0. Aplin and Arnold combined for 233 rushing yards on the day. In the air, Aplin went 18 for 28 for 240 yards, but threw three interceptions on the afternoon.
Then the Mean Green came back. Lance Dunbar had a 36 yard rushing touchdown to make it 27-7 at the half. In the third, Kevin Dickerson pounded the rock for a 25 yard score. That cut it to 27-14.
Josh Arauco drilled a 33 yard field goal to make it 30-14 ASU after three.
North Texas tacked on two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to cut it to 30-26, but it wasn't enough.
The ASU victory is their first since October 24th.
