Red Wolves fall at St. Louis 79-70

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (11/30/09) - The Saint Louis Billikens (3-3) wiped out a 10-point Arkansas State lead with a 25-6 run in the final seven minutes and went on to defeat the Red Wolves 79-70 Monday night at Chaifetz Arena.

Trailing 36-34 at the half, the Red Wolves (2-6) outscored Saint Louis 30-18 in the first 13 minutes of the second half, getting six straight points from junior forward Shay Scott and a pair of free throws from senior forward Lyndsay Schlup to cap the run and put ASU up by 10 at 64-54.

From there, the Red Wolves only managed a pair of field goals and two free throws from senior guard Ebonie Jefferson, who led ASU with 18 points, as the Billikens rallied for the win.

"On a night when we set a team goal of taking care of the basketball with 15 turnovers or less, we do that. We shot free throws well enough, then comes the 'but,' where we gave up 25 points in the last seven minutes," said ASU head coach Brian Boyer. "There are a lot of positives. We just have to put those positives together each night. We can't keep having good nights of this and good nights of that, and then the 'buts,' because those things are killing us."

Sophomore guard NeNe Hurst and Scott also finished in double figures for Arkansas State, scoring 13 and 10 points respectively. Schlup led ASU on the board with 15 rebounds, her second consecutive double-digit rebounding game. Center Amanda Kemezys led SLU with 14 points and 19 rebounds.

The Red Wolves will now travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., where Arkansas State will take on the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona Saturday, Dec. 5 at 4:35 p.m. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Arizona and will be available to satellite subscribers on DirecTV channel 686and Dish Network channel 415.
