WBC Tourney quarterfinals resume Thursday

One defending champion advanced to the semifinals, but another was sent packing in Tuesday night's action at the Williams Baptist College Tournament. The Southside girls, who won last year's WBC Tourney, defeated Black Rock Tuesday, but the defending champion Riverside boys fell to Hillcrest.

In the tournament's other games Tuesday night, Black Rock defeated the Walnut Ridge boys, while Pocahontas eliminated the Walnut Ridge girls.

Scores from Tuesday were:

Girls: Southside 66, Black Rock 56

Boys: Black Rock 50, Walnut Ridge 40

Girls: Pocahontas 60, Walnut Ridge 39

Boys: Hillcrest 61, Riverside 55

Quarterfinals will continue on Thursday. The schedule for Thursday is:

4:30 p.m. - Girls: Viola (3) vs. Marmaduke (6)

5:50 p.m. - Boys: Viola (1) vs. Hoxie (9)

7:10 p.m. - Girls: Corning (2) vs. Hillcrest (10)

8:30 p.m. - Boys: Marmaduke (4) vs. Pocahontas (5)

Saturday's results were:

Girls: Southside 66, Sloan-Hendrix 27

The tournament runs through Saturday in WBC's Southerland-Mabee Center. Semifinal games will be played Friday evening. The championship games are slated for Saturday starting at 6:00 p.m. Admission each evening is $5 for adults and $4 for students.
