JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - The chief jailer at the Craighead County Detention Center has been suspended after pleading guilty to assault and disorderly conduct charges.

Fifty-6-year-old Alfreda Hampton was fined and ordered to enroll in an anger management class after pleading guilty Monday to third-degree assault on a family member and disorderly conduct.

A Jonesboro police report says Hampton was arrested last Wednesday at St. Bernards Medical Center after punching a family member in the throat.

Police say she told officers her brother was being treated at the hospital and that she was having problems with family members.

Jail Administrator John Smith says the case is still under investigation and additional disciplinary action could range from counseling to Hampton being fired.
