Arrest made in fatal Paragould hit and run

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) – A juvenile is under arrest for the hit-and-run death of a man who was driving down the road in a power chair.

A 17 year old juvenile faces negligent homicide and leaving the scene of a collision with injuries. His name is not being released.

Paragould Police say his bond has been set at $5,000, but family has posted it and he has been released to their custody.

The accident occurred late Wednesday night. According to Paragould Police, David Brian Smith was hit by a vehicle while operating a power chair on Highway 49 B near Tenneco. He was found by a passerby around 8:30 Wednesday night lying in a ditch.

Smith was taken to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead around midnight. The cause of death is unknown, with autopsy results pending from the Arkansas State Crime Lab medical examiner.
