MARION, Il (KFVS) - As winter moves into the Heartland, Ameren Illinois is reminding folks they need to get prepared.
Ameren hosted an open house in Marion Thursday evening. The goal: to let area residents know what they'll need if a storm knocks power out for several days.
The emergency supply list includes a flashlight, money, first aid kit, and blankets.
"The number one thing that customers need to understand is family safety comes first. Being prepared will help customers to be safe," Ameren Illinois Spokesperson Victoria Busch said.
Busch says it is best to prepare for a 72-hour power outage.
She adds also make sure you have enough food and water for that entire time.
Ameren's family safety emergency supply list includes: flashlight, battery-powered radio, battery-powered clock, extra batteries, scissors, duct tape, screwdriver and other hand tools, work gloves, safety goggles, blankets, first-aid kit, cash, important phone numbers, extra car keys and cell phones along with car chargers.
