Arkansas will play East Carolina in Liberty Bowl

(KAIT) - On Sunday, Arkansas' bowl picture came into focus. They are one of 10 SEC teams that will play postseason football this year. Bobby Petrino's 7-5 Razorbacks will play 9-4 East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl on Saturday, January 2nd.

Arkansas is in the Liberty Bowl for the fourth time in school history. The ledger hasn't been kind. They lost 14-13 to Tennessee in 1971, 21-15 to Auburn in 1981, and 20-17 to Georgia in 1987.

It will be the 25th time Arkansas will play a January bowl game. They haven't won in the first month of the year since beating Texas 27-6 in the 1999 Cotton Bowl.

East Carolina returns to the Liberty Bowl for the second straight year. They lost to Kentucky 25-19 11 months ago.

The two-time defending Conference USA champions are coached by Skip Holtz, son of former Razorback head coach Lou Holtz.

Kickoff is slated for 3:30pm on January 2nd and will be telecast on ESPN.
