Charlie Strong to be named Louisville coach

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – WAVE 3 has confirmed the University of Louisville will announce 49-year-old Charlie Strong as the Cards new head football coach Wednesday.

The university sent out an email Tuesday inviting the press to a 3:30 p.m. meeting of the University Athletic Association board of directors.   The meeting will be followed by a press conference at which time Strong will be named as the new head football coach of the Cardinal football team.

Strong is currently the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at the University of Florida. The Gators rank in the top five in the nation in total defense and Strong helped win two national championships at Florida.

Tuesday, Strong was in Little Rock, AR where he finished third in the balloting for the top assistant in the nation.
